Rules and planning in Lincolnshire

Approved Document K requires safety glass in critical locations in England: glazing in doors and in side panels within 300 mm of a door, up to 1500 mm above floor level, and any glazing in walls or partitions up to 800 mm above floor level.

Approved Document L sets the minimum energy performance for replacement windows and doors in existing homes in England: a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K, or Window Energy Rating band B for windows; doors can instead meet a Door Set Energy Rating (band B, or band C for doors more than 60% glazed); rooflights need 2.2 W/m²K.

In England, replacing a whole window, roof window or glazed external door is building work. It has to be notified to building control, either by an installer registered with a competent person scheme such as FENSA or Certass, or through a building notice to the council. Replacing only the glass in an existing frame is a repair and is not notifiable.

Lincolnshire has its own coastline, so for homes and businesses near the sea, salt air and wind-driven rain are part of the brief.

Ways we can help in Lincolnshire

Shower Screens in Lincolnshire

Limescale builds up more quickly in hard-water areas. Wiping the glass with a squeegee after each shower, cleaning weekly with a mild non-abrasive cleaner and avoiding scouring pads keeps it clear. Harsh descalers can also dull metal hinges and attack silicone seals.

Sliding Doors in Lincolnshire

Keep sliding doors running smoothly by vacuuming the bottom track and drainage slots regularly, wiping the tracks with a damp cloth and checking the brush seals. Avoid oil on the track itself, which attracts grit. Rollers can be adjusted when a panel starts to drag or the lock no longer lines up.

uPVC Windows in Lincolnshire

uPVC no longer means white only. Frames can be foiled in woodgrain or solid colours such as grey, black or cream, often outside only with white inside. Foils are bonded at the factory and should be cleaned with a soft cloth and mild detergent, because abrasive pads and solvents mark the surface.

Secondary Glazing in Lincolnshire

The price of secondary glazing depends on the size and number of windows, the opening style, the glass specification, any shaped or arched heads, reveal depth and condition, and access. Acoustic laminated glass and shaped frames cost more than standard clear glass in rectangular frames.

Glazing in Lincolnshire: questions

Can I cancel after accepting a quote?

If you contract at home or remotely, you normally have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Made-to-measure goods that have been made to your specification may not be cancellable once production starts; your quote and terms explain this clearly.

What should I do if a window has just broken?

Keep people and pets away from the glass, wear thick gloves if you need to move anything, and call us. We can arrange boarding or temporary glazing to make the opening safe, then measure for permanent glass. If there has been a break-in, report it to the police and note the reference for your insurer.

Is my information shared with anyone?

Your enquiry is used to arrange your survey and quote. It is handled by the S&K Group and the glazier assigned to your job, and is not sold to third parties. See the privacy policy for full details.

What happens to the old glass?

We take away the old glass and packaging and dispose of it responsibly. If you would like anything kept, such as original leaded panels, tell us before the work starts.

Which towns in Lincolnshire do you cover?

We cover the whole of Lincolnshire, including Lincoln, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Boston, Grantham and Cleethorpes, across postcode areas DN, LN, NG, PE. Enter your postcode on the quote form and we will confirm cover and arrange a free survey.
