Glass splashback behind hob in Manchester
The price depends on the total glass area, the number of panels and joints, the number of cut-outs, the colour and glass type, and access to the wall. Low-iron glass, metallic or printed finishes and complex shapes add cost. See the guide prices for typical ranges.
The wall behind a splashback must be flat, sound and dry so the adhesive bonds evenly. Old tiles are usually removed and the wall made good, because uneven surfaces show through the glass and can create stress points behind the panel.
Hob makers set minimum clearances between the hob and nearby wall surfaces, and gas hobs in particular can have specific requirements. We check your hob's installation instructions before ordering so the glass, its cut-outs and any joints sit where the manufacturer allows.
Standard glass has a green tint that shows through back-painted colours, especially whites, creams and pale greys. Low-iron glass contains less iron, removes most of that tint and keeps the painted colour close to the sample, so it is the usual choice for light colours.

About Manchester for this job
- Postcodes covered
- M1, M2, M4, M8, M9, M11, M12, M13, M14, M15, M16, M18, M19, M20 and the surrounding area, including Salford, Old Trafford and Failsworth
- Coast
- Manchester is well inland, around 38 km from the nearest coast, so salt exposure is not usually a factor.
- Daylight and sun
- In Manchester the midwinter sun reaches about 13° above the horizon at noon, with roughly 7.2 hours of daylight, rising to about 60° and 16.8 hours in midsummer. Glossy glass reflects light from windows and under-cabinet lighting, brightening a dark kitchen. Low winter sun hitting a glass wall can cause glare, so a satin finish may suit a splashback that faces a south-facing window.
- Access and setting
- Kitchens in flats and terraces often have narrow access and tight stairs, so long splashbacks may be split into shorter panels with planned joints. Parking for the fitting team and building rules on working hours can also affect scheduling.
- Rules in England
- Building regulations do not usually apply to this type of work, but we confirm anything that does in writing with your quote.

What you can choose
Printed design
A digitally printed image or pattern on the back of the glass, sealed behind it so the front stays smooth and wipeable.
Back-painted colour
Toughened glass painted on the back in a matched colour, giving a smooth, glossy finish in almost any shade to suit units or walls.
Low-iron glass
Glass with less iron, removing the green tint of standard glass so whites, creams and pale colours look true to the sample.
Glass Splashbacks in Manchester: questions
Can a glass splashback be fitted over existing tiles?
It is usually better to remove the tiles and make the wall good first. Glass needs a flat, sound surface for the adhesive to bond evenly, and grout lines, uneven tiles or loose tiles can show through or create stress points. Removing tiles also stops the glass standing too far forward of the worktop and sockets.
Can a glass splashback go behind a hob?
Yes, provided it is toughened glass and the hob maker's clearances are followed. Toughened glass copes with the heat from a hob far better than ordinary glass, and it is what we fit behind cookers. Some gas hobs need a minimum gap to the wall, so we check your hob's instructions before the glass is ordered.
When should my glass splashback be measured?
Your splashback should be templated after the worktops, units and hob are installed and any electrical work is finished. The glass is made to the exact finished dimensions, including socket positions, so measuring from plans or before worktops go in often leads to panels that do not fit and have to be remade.
Can you cut holes in a glass splashback for sockets?
Yes. Socket, switch and extractor cut-outs are made at the factory before the glass is toughened, because toughened glass cannot be cut afterwards. That means socket positions must be final when we template. If sockets need moving or adding, a qualified electrician should do that first, and we template around the new positions.
